Our July 23rd meeting at Galt Country Club was a pretty special one for a few reasons: first, we welcomed two new members, Paul Brown and Dean Fitzgerald, to our club. We're looking forward to their contributions! We also bid farewell to Sue Ricketts, one of our original members, who will be moving to the Goderich area. We wish you all the best, Sue - and thank you for all of the contributions you've made to our club and district during your time here!
We also welcomed Sohail Naseer, the new District Governor who made us his very first club visit in his tenure as DG! Sohail spoke about "The Magic of Rotary", a theme he plans to apply during the coming year. It reflects the principles of Motivation, Action, Generosity, Inclusion, and Connection (with both the community as well as strengthening connections within our club!) Key areas of focus for the district this year will include Rotary's legacy, Sustainable Growth, Youth Engagement, and Promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
Additional items from the meeting are captured within this bulletin.
Nicole provided an update on bingo during our July 23rd meeting... thank you to all who've been able to support our efforts!
Some really exciting news: from just three bingos in June, we have raised $4100 that we can apply to service projects! This will grow as we take on more bingos in the future.
There are still dates available for volunteer coverage - and it only requires a twenty-minute online training and a monitoring shift. Just check out the link below to see the schedule and to sign up. If you have any questions, just reach out to Nicole...
Thank you to Rita who has bringing the history of Rotary into our meetings since the inception of our club! Recently, she has been speaking about the causes that Rotary takes on. On Tuesday night, she presented the third in a seven-part series - this one on "Providing clean water, sanitation, and hygiene."
Clean water, sanitation, and hygiene education are basic necessities for a healthy environment and a productive life. When people have access to clean water and sanitation, waterborne diseases decrease, children stay healthier and attend school more regularly, and mothers can spend less time carrying water and more time helping their families.
How Rotary Makes Help Happen
Through water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programs, Rotary’s people of action mobilize resources, form partnerships, and invest in infrastructure and training that yield long-term change.
Some examples from around the world
In the Philippines, Rotary clubs and partners built 222 toilets, six rainwater collectors, seven communal handwashing stations, and 20 bio sand filters. The project provided more than 1,000 people with access to proper toilet facilities and almost 600 people with a regular supply of clean water.
All 24 of Lebanon’s Rotary clubs came together — overcoming religious, cultural, and political divisions — to form partnerships with the government, World Vision, UNICEF, and the Red Cross. Together the groups developed a program that delivers clean water to every public school in the country.
Rotary clubs partnered with local organizations to install a rainwater harvesting and distribution center for 4,000 people in Papua New Guinea. They also delivered training programs for women in the community and students in 35 schools.
At our Tuesday meeting, we welcomed Captain Darren Woods and Major Danette Woods who spoke with us briefly about the need for “Back to School” supplies for families needing a bit of help with this. They will be our guest speakers at our meeting on Tuesday August 27th . But in the meantime, there is an urgent need for the following - and if you are able to bring some of these articles to our August 27th meeting, it would be very appreciated!

Looking Ahead to October... The District Conference
The Rotary District 7080 Conference will be coming up soon! It will be held on October 5, 2024 at the FirstOntario Arts Centre in Milton. The theme is "Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Beyond", and a link to registration will be coming soon... This will be a great learning opportunity for all participants - so put a placeholder in your calendar for this special event!
At our July 23rd club meeting, Scott distributed copies of our 2024-2028 Action Plan and Strategic Vision document. This was developed back in the Spring at a special weekend planning session, facilitated by Scott.
Just a flag about our next meeting on Tuesday, August 13th.... this will be a club assembly meeting with a focus on goals for the year, business and budget items, and logistics for future meetings. Please plan to attend!
